junior high retreat

This year our HighPoint theme was “Surviving Jr. High” and we talked about 3 main ways that our 6th-8th graders need to be navigating the transition to Middle School and Jr. High (Or pretty much any change for that matter).

After highpoint activities

We hope your child had a great weekend at HighPoint this weekend. As you know, our theme was “Surviving Jr. High” and challenged the students that they need to rightly navigate the changes as they moved into Jr. High. As a follow up to the retreat, we would challenge you to engage your child in the following ways:

1. Play the HighPoint worship playlist: Here is a link to the Spotify HighPoint playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2COPmtQl9KKkhlP3Z8DOK0?si=ZRg__WnLQ_u2JDsoE45mWQ

We would encourage to play these songs at home, on your child’s phone, and in the car to help your child continue to engage God in worship. If you don’t have Spotify, here on the songs: Living Hope, Unstoppable God, Only King Forever, Give me Faith, Your Promises.

2. Ask them some questions about the weekend:

What was you favorite part of the weekend?

What is one way you sensed God working in your life over the weekend?

What was one way that the weekend was extra challenging?

Did you make any new friends?

3. Ask to see the “Survival Kit”  that they created:

As a part of the survival kit, the students got a pocket Bible, journal, and a polaroid picture of their small group. This survival kit is symbolic of the scriptural truths they need in order to navigate the changes as they move into Middle School and Jr. High - namely - the Word of God and the community of believers. As a point of application, you might help your child find a Bible reading plan on you-version and make sure they are plugged into one of our small groups in our Student Ministry.

4. Ask them about the Night Hike:

Using the stars on the hike as a visual illustration, we taught the students from Genesis 15:4-6 where God promises Abram that he will create a great nation from his family line - a nation that will be as numerous as the stars of the sky. With this message, we helped the students understand that part of surviving Jr. High is remembering your family identity. As Christians, we are a part of the family of God, held together by Christ, the promised descendent of Abraham. The key truth we helped our students understand is that because God has been faithful to his promise, we have a unique identity in Christ that will sustain us through all the trials and tribulations of Jr. High!

As you lead your child through these Junior High Years, please let us know how we can help!  We are here for you, love your kids, and desire for them to faithfully belong to Jesus!
